What is a SANE exam?

If you have been recently sexually assaulted and decide to complete a rape kit, you may hear the term SANE. A SANE is an important resource to know about if following a sexual assault you are seeking any sort of medical attention whether or not you are considering reporting the crime.

SANE nurses and SAFE (sexual assault forensic examiners) are medical professionals who have completed specialized training in the evaluation and forensic examination of adult, adolescent and child victims of sexual assault and abuse. SANE nurses participate in a 24hour/7 day a week On-Call Rotation. In addition they are able to conduct a forensic exam and may provide expert testimony if you would like for your case to be prosecuted.

Who do we partner with?

We partner with the Athens-Clarke County Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program to help survivors in the pursuit of medical care and examination after a sexual assault. Our Advocates are able to attend the clinic with you if you like to help walk you through the exam process.

ACC-SANE Program functions as a non-profit 501 (c) 3 agency and is currently governed by a board of directors.
